When Josie launched this blog, she only have one thing in mind: saving the lives of the strays who counted on her daily visit. Her pocket had been empty for a week, she barely survived all the bills, face yet another challenge from her landlord (I still cannot comprehend what is it with that guy), and have to count on the grace of her regular pet shop, who knows what she is doing and mercifully let her take whatever food she need and pay later.
She faced countless of sneers, rejection, humiliation, harassments, sometimes even physical abuse for doing what she does, but she keeps going. She answer every rejection with courtesy, and explain all of her action with humility, she did get mad sometimes, but above all else, she keeps going.
She never expect that anyone would help. One or two, maybe, but not really much. Internet may have sweet face, but often reveal a stiff heart, yet she keeps going.
Today, after taking her Goldie from the vet to spay/neuter, she found the fence locked. The landlord apparently have someone change the locks that she cannot go in, and when given a call, instead telling her to wait until he’s done with his business (who knows when), making her ended up waiting under the full sun for more than three hours before she rode back to the vet and requested that Goldie can stay there for the rest of the afternoon, and return to the office. If you wanted to know, the fence was opened at five p.m, another four hours after Josie waited wastefully by the gate.
She wasn’t broken.
With some help from a friend, her blog soar high though the World Wide Web, and draw attention of many. Together, angels around the world flocked over to lend her a hand, resulting in some USD 507.01.
Though that amount can only cover half of Renoir and Picassa’s treatment, she never lose hope. “There’s always way” so she said, and therefore she keeps on trying. USD 507.01 is a very good start, though the traffic in her Paypal account alarmed the company, that resulting in her account being frozen because it was deemed “potentially high risk”
Certainly, Paypal never mention that they can just freeze an account because it is suddenly active. They did say that any member can start receiving money in the instant of their account verification, but definitely were shocked enough to see how much people come and lend a hand.
The giant also cheated on her, by charging her some fee while converting USD into Indonesian before she withdraw her fund, froze her account, and therefore charge another amount to reverse the money back into US.
That doesn’t include blocking her account from receiving anymore fund for the same reason.
And so another door was closed for her. Until she resolve the dispute with Paypal, she will not be able to withdraw her money.
She keeps going.
She appeal and appeal, while harshly rejected by Paypal, until she called her lawyer friend to explain to Paypal how different is the nature of Indonesian “business” compared to those in US, and that she is Indonesian citizen, and therefore, Paypal cannot override her with US law.
Well, they still freeze the account, so anyone who wants to make donation would have to do it by bank transfer (contact Josie to get the detail).
Reading all the comments that came in, aside from the donation, Josie has never been so shocked in a happy sort of way, but holding her tears she gracefully reply to each and everyone of her supporter. The word of encouragement sent to her was overwhelming, though not all of the incoming comment was an encouragement.
Some question what she was up to with all her action, some said she should stop now before she broke down due to lack of support from the government itself regarding animal welfare. Some said similar things: that she battled alone amidst raging war, and it will be such unfortunate if she still deny the obvious loss.
The others just tell her to follow the mainstream, that is: go shopping, watch the movie, get laid, follow latest fashion, and be happy. Forget about the cats, unless they can make money for you.
In short, this life is just not visible.
Still, instead of admitting her loss as she’s been told, or trashing the discouraging messages, she replied:
You will laugh to my unusual talent, but I wish to draw you back to the day when Barrack Obama was elected president. This man, a new baby to lawmakers, and a fresh man to politics was awarded the crown for his intelligence and pure intention. His election had brought historical moment not only to your country, but also to the rest of the world.
Drawing all the spotlights and euphoria of this world class dream-come-true drama to my lonesome, private life, I felt that I am compelled to step up to the crown myself. With my various history, and as much intelligence, I should hvae been able to claim the presidency of my own fate.
While the audacity of his hope has already heard, and answered, the impudence of my mind has yet to be known. While the change he seeks has gained the chance, my sheer ideology has yet to seize the day.
But if this man, out of his inner nature can come and take the world, why can’t I? If this man, out of his traits as a detached and loner, can gain the trust of millions, why can’t we?
I have debts to return, bills to pay, and ten lives that its owner entrusted to me, but if I am to try, I will get by, one way or another. I have no laws to back me up, or friends to keep me company, but if I keep going,I’ll meet someone . After all, even when all hell broke lose on earth, there will be one light that stays in the deepest box of our heart: HOPE, that will keep us going.
Dear San,
Thank you very much on the update of Josephia. Please let her know she is always in my thoughts. And thank you so much for being there for her. Who is currently looking after all her rescues? And if we must send the Western Union money to you instead, please let us know. You can Personal Message me at Care2. Sending love and light to you and Josie and her furry friends.
Eureka
please san, could you let me/us know how josie’s health is right now ?
i’m worried sick about her !
i sent her a personal message at care2 on april 28 – if she’s not well enough to read it, would you please do so and tell her about it ?
it has details about a paymant i made to her bank ! thank you !
San, does Indonesia accept Western Union bank transfers? If it does, then the way to get money to Josephia is open. All you would need to do is this:
For anyone wishing to send money to Josephia via Western Union:
San must write you privately – as one does not want these details all over the internet:
1) Josephia’s full name and Surname
2) Josephia’s physical address + postal/zip code & country
3) Josephia’s telephone contact number
4) Secret question answer: Could just be ‘care2’
At your Western Union branch or bank that does Western Union transfers:
1) Fill in the form providing details of recipient = josephia
2) Fill in your details
3) Reason for sending = gift
You will get a copy of the transfer – there will be a Western Union Transfer number.
Email San with this reference number and your name, surname, full physical address and zip code.
Josephia will personally have to go to the western union branch/bank and fill in a form to receive the funds – indicating it is a gift (NOT A DONATION!). She will supply the reference number and full details of the sender plus answer the secret question (whatever was agreed upon). And the money will be in her pocket! Simple as that!
Please let me know if Western Union is an option in Josephia’s country.
Much love and support. Eureka xxxxx
Dearest San, I am so thankful you are able to be with Josie! I am so very worried about her, it sounds so terribly serious! Will she have to be hospitalized long? I know she must be fighting to go home! Is there any long term effects from this illness? I sure hope not…I wish her a full and speedy recovery! She must be made to understand she has got to take better care of herself! We need our Josie! I am so glad a new place to move her has been found! I think much of her stress is from that jerk of a landlord she has…Lord only knows what he puts her through! Is the new place willing to accept her cats also? I know she loves each and every one of them very much, as do I all my rescues!I will be sending money to her bank on May 3 or 4. I cannot send much but will send what I can USD, it does go farther, yes? I am still aquiring things off her wishlist for the shelter…please let me know if there is an item that is urgently needed, and I will try to help! As I told Josie, if the postage after I have the parcel weighed is too great I will just send more to the bank acct…..I have no idea what the postage rate might be from my location! Thank you for being so kind as to tell us about Josie’s condition and keep us informed, we love her very much and wish we could do more! I am sending her get well cards to her Care2 address as she can access them when she is alittle bit better and home…RESTING! Thank you San, again for all your help and kindness! Much love to Josie and youself, Sherrie
Mam,
I too am very glad that I can be by Josie’s side when she need me the most. Of many years, she has been fighting alone in the hostile land, and though she is a strong and independent girl (aside from her will), she is, like me, and the rest of us, a human being with limitation.
At this moment, I regret to tell you that after a thorough testing by the doctors, she was denied permission to go home, because her typhoid was too severe. There were ulcers in her intestine and if she continue to enslave herself physically and emotionally like this, her gallbladder might erupted and that would bring even worse outcome for her life. It doesn’t help that her liver was weak, and therefore, the next minute I signed her into the hospital, I saw her with some wires and i.v sticking on her hand, and she must stay that way for snd ome times, at least until she is strong enough to chew her own food.
Even so, I know we have hope. Some of her working associate told us that the hospital had assigned one of the best internist in town to handle her, and after meeting him several time, I know that the doctor is indeed knowledgeable and well experienced. He done everything in his power to assure her that she is all right and that she should really take this opportunity to rest, and though he did send some sort of a scary warning about how Josie’s body will try to repulse any kind of food that came in, He helped her cope with her and take her one step after another toward her complete healing.
It was indeed a heartbreaking moment to see her going through. Her body did reject everything that tried to comes in, even food, and watching her vomit every two minutes until she passed out due to tiredness will surely be the most haunting experience in my life. However, Josie held on, and tried the best she can, and she finally passed that critical condition yesterday, after fighting for a whole week. Her iv has been reduced from more than 5 bottles to 2, and it is a good sign to now turn to her jaundice. Her liver is still in bad shape, and so tomorrow she has to undergo a few more blood test and an USG to ensure the best way to her next treatment.
During the nightmarish times, Josie is still thinking about all of you. Telling stories about you and the others she knows from Care2 seems to be lifting her heart, that every trouble she has been through is completely bearable. It is amazing how she managed to smile even when everyone frowned in sorry for her, but that only convinced me that your friendship is stronger than anyone can imagine happened over the Internet. There never been one night I am not grateful that she has each and everyone of you, and I DO know that she feels the same.
What amazed me the most is, in between her short “sober” time (she is usually between medicines), she still writes, and I have all the intention to publish it as soon as she finished the article. Meanwhile, however, please hold on to our absence for a while, and pray for Josie’s healing.
Respectfuly, ~San
dear san – i’m glad now that i couldn’t donate right away – i’ve sent a donation now to her bank account; and i’m also sending a parcel with cat toys and blankets – i just hope that it will arrive safely ! thank you VERY much for answering all my questions ! i’ve got a new one : how long will you be able to stay with josie ? we’re a bit worried how she will be able to cope on her own now that she’s so ill ; would you have time to help her move to her new address ? i really hope so – a better home could make a lot of difference ! thanks so much for all you do for her ! lots of love to you both ! (and please call me ekeim!)
dear san – could you tell us josie’s bank details, also an IBAN- and BIC-code if you have those : then i can go and find out if i can make a transfer to her bank and how much that costs.
is she still in hospital ? has the fever gone yet ? has her boss found her a new address ?
and the dog – i suppose it was hurt as well : has it been taken to a vet ? is it safe now ?
sorry to bother you with all these questions, but i’m really looking forward to the answers !
Mam,
Josie was released from hospital a few days ago actually, but we’d have to take her back to the hospital because her fever is back high every night for the next few days. The doctor ran several tests on her, and we find out that she has typhoid, as well as liver function disorder. the doctor said apparently she has been neglecting her rest or good food. Based on this information I decided to hold her in until she can properly heal before she go home. Josie is almost always alone so I think it is better that while I am here with her, she can nurse herself to complete fitness before I leave. It will be a little difficult if I’m back in Japan and she’s sick again. Liver failure (minor) and typhoid are cruel combo. She didn’t want to put this news on her blog or announce it publicly because she doesn’t want people to think she is trying to make a soap opera of all these adversities.
The dog is all right. Josie called other rescuer from nearby city who are willing to drive six hours back and forth and take the dog away. Where Josie live is a Muslim dominated area. The dog would have been dead if he’s alone on the street too long and that is why we do the evac ASAP.
Her boss did find her another address, to where we hope she can move after she is cleared from the hospital. However, I am thinking that it might be at best if she can postpone the move, because moving is a tiring process, and I’m not sure she is ready for that.
Her bank details are as follow:
PT. Bank Permata, Tbk Branch Astana Anyar, Bandung, Indonesia A/C: 3411979988 Account holder name: Tania SWIFT code: BBBAIDJA
Don’t worry about contacting me Mam. I am more than happy to assist in any way I can. I am happy that she has so many caring friends. Thank you very much for your kindness and thoughtfulness.
Respectfully, ~San
San, you are too kind. An angel I am not….just an old warrior that has fought the same fight Josie fights everyday. She has it much worse than I ever did, being in the location she is in. But she has wisdom, strength, determination and you….she is well armed and still young. When you get older you get exhausted both emotionally and physically much easier and I think it is because of decades of seeing such horrible cruelty that never stops….bu making a difference in the lives that you touch, the ones that you save makes it all worthwhile.*****I hope Josie is better today or tonight as it may be for you now. She must take better care of herself, she is very precious to many!I will send her a get well card on Care2. If there is anything else I can do, please let me know. Much love and many Blessings are sent for Josie and you. Please stay safe and watch over Josie.
Thanks San for the update! The internet banking should work better, hopefully no “hidden agendas” there. As for Paypal, they will be receiving a piece of my mind again today. They are a “service” which means they “provide” for their customers not take away and cheat them! I use them, as many people do for various accounts and if they can act no better than this I will boycott their services! It is a shame they must rob from charities…what a disgrace!****I hope Josie is alright! She is one courageous lady, one I would want on my side anyday! I am quite sure she is a long lost little sister of mine! She acts just like me, throws caution to the wind to save the animals!I am so glad she had some back-up, you and the motorcyclists! The violence there and what could happen to her scares the crap right out of me! I pray everyday, more than once a day to keep her safe! I only wish I could offer more help….
A sister? Isn’t she already? Josie always thinks of fellow human beings as brothers and sisters, as well as the animals, the plants, and even element of nature. The poem in Latin written on her care2 profile page (I just learn that today) is one of the proof. Even when she has to stay in the hospital longer (she develop a high fever in the afternoon so everyone except her was afraid for infection, more so because she was already sick before) she still think of you and everyone else, and make me promise that I’ll take care of the urgent notes. I’ll work through care2 later today to see how it works and get some ideas of how I can help her more.
Obviously, yes you are right. I was supposed to fly to Iceland to talk my way around regarding Iceland and Norway’s whaling (they are no better than my own Japan *sigh*) a few days ago, but it seems like they are paying their karma now. The volcanic ash practically ended all their economy, and I am certain that though their financial loss will never match all the lives of the dolphins, sharks, and whales, nature is paying them their revenge. Then, my stuck-ness in Indonesia seems to be a fate’s play, because had I flown to Iceland, Josie will be all alone other than those two good Samaritans. So yes, once again, Josie’s wisdom amazed me. She always said that there’s no such things as coincidence, there’s only fate. Those sayings are proven true for so many times that I believe it very much, and it give us strength to go on. Everything has its purpose, and whatever it is, it’s the best.
Internet banking will not have hidden agendas more than a fee I guess. Every bank does that, and since they’re bank, they are regulated strictly by governmental rules and international obligations. However, Paypal is not a bank. They are a private, for profit company that act like a bank, but is more “free” because they are not regulated by banking terms and service. This, sadly, will also mean that they legally have right to take any money they want, or do whatever they want with the money we entrusted to them.
Thank you yet once again for your concerns. You are a wonderful person, and I am totally grateful that God have led her to you. It’s an honor to know an angel in person.
~San
dear josie, i’ve complained to paypal on your behalf, and so have others – don’t worry, i’m sure it will be allright soon ! will let you know when i hear back from them.
don’t get discouraged – there are lots of people who support you now !
Thanks for all the encouragement! Whoa… I never knew that during my absence, she has gained so many mutual friends! No wonder she said that I won’t be able to stay away from this blog once I wrote one.
I’ll send Josie all your encouragement. She is in the hospital right now, receiving some stiches. Earlier this morning when she went to work, she crosses path with a group of children who were busy laughing. Inside their circle was a thin, emaciated dog with scabies and wounds, tied on its neck, held down to four directions while the other stoned him.
I certainly don’t know what fun generates from doing that, but certainly she steps in, gang fight with those kiddy thugs, and definitely getting some stone on her face.
I was on my way to help when a pair of motorcyclists passed by, horning loudly and obviously aiming to run over the kids, which scattered the whole group away.
The female rider yelled at them with all sort of expletives and what we had left in the middle of the (then) circle was a terrified dog who panically tried to hid in Josie’s arm. I swear I never seen a tremor like that after Kobe earthquake.
So, we (motorcyclists +me + Josie) hid the dog in an empty house, take her to a hospital, and I went back to tell her boss what’s happening.
Her boss, a tree and plant lover (Josie loves animal and her boss loves plant? what a combo), jumped out of her chair, go to the phone, call another staff, and when the staff arrived, said it loud and clear “Get Josie out of there. Look for a new rented space, we’ll talk about the price later on”
Don’t worry about the dog though, I fed him.
As about the Paypal, well, I learn from fellow Paypal users in Japan and USA that Josie certainly was not the first, and won’t be the last. You see, Paypal is not bank, so they don’t need to comply with any banking rules. They can freeze any account as they like, refuse to pay any fund they want, and leave both merchants or charity with nothing but a notification that they should wait.
When I was consulting about filing a lawsuit, I was told that during last year only Paypal received approx 100,000 lawsuits from all over the world, two of which shocked me enough because They freeze a fund-raiser’s account for Hurricane Gustav and Katrina (raised more than USD 10,000 within 9 hours), they also freeze account of an orphanage suffering from Haiti earthquake because they deemed such account that receive sudden surge of fund as “righ risk” and “dangerous”
However, instead of battling Paypal with lawsuits which I am sure will not get her fund anywhere, I am looking for a paypal alternative that will process donation through any platform including Paypal.
Oh my Lord! Dearest Josie – Has PayPal STOLEN all the money that we sent you (I and many others on Care2)?
What is the matter with them? How can they DO such a thing? Surely you will get your money later on?
Oh my God; this is absolutely terrible – how will you manage with your precious fur babies now? This money was donated so that you wouldn’t have to give up your fur kids. Is there someone at PayPal we could write to and make a stink about this high-handed treatment of you by them? Do you have any names; even just ONE name of a PayPal employee who has communicated with you about this issue?
Ignore what the stupid, the callous, the ignorant are telling you; you just keep on doing what YOU want to do with YOUR life, Josie! I know from personal experience that the unconditional love and the absolute trust that animals give their human guardians is very precious indeed. You have your life path to follow, as do we all.
Josie, do you have Internet banking? If so, we can transfer money directly to you, I think (from one account to yours) – not sure how it works when converting from one currency to another.
Do Not Give Up! Hang In There!
Thanks for all the encouragement! Whoa… I never knew that during my absence, she has gained so many mutual friends! No wonder she said that I won’t be able to stay away from this blog once I wrote one.

As of Paypal…. well, unfortunately Josie is not the first,
This whole mess with Paypal is such a crock of bull….they are mad they did not receive a fee for each transaction into her account, so therefore they will stop her from receiveing anymore and charge her fees for what she did get….little do they care this is a charity drive, a donation central! I have a name for them, that which I cannot print…..As for the people that tell you Josie, do that, do this, be happy, forget the cats….they have not got a clue to what true compassion and service to others means. Even if the others are our animal friends, our grateful, appreciative companions that will love us unconditionally for our care and love…so simple. I agree that you are fighting a raging war, one with few friends and many enemies. But you are the light, the beacon in the dark for the less compassionate, the ignorant in their own greed, who turn their head or worse yet, criticize the good you do. If they are lucky, they will learn to follow your example, to appreciate the sacrifices you make so others can be comfortable or at the very least just live. You have earned your crown Josie, wear it proudly…let the beacon shine!
Thanks for all the encouragement! Whoa… I never knew that during my absence, she has gained so many mutual friends! No wonder she said that I won’t be able to stay away from this blog once I wrote one.
